Birds of a Feather Acrylic WorkshopArtful LivingThis acrylic painting class features a single perched bird, perfect as a standalone piece. Friends, partners, or family members are also welcome to attend together—each creating their own bird. One participant may choose to reverse the pattern, allowing the finished paintings to be displayed as a complementary pair. You will be provided with a supply list of items to bring to the class. Your instructor will guide you step-by-step through the process to paint this sweet little bird!Spring/Summer 2026 -
Clay Garden Sculpture WorkshopArtful LivingSpring is here, or will be soon! Create some unique objects that are certain to enhance your spaces! Possibilities are endless and could include: a toad house, bird house, garden sign, remembrance stone, planter, plant/herb markers, bird feeder, wind chimes, bee watering station, or anything else you can think of to add to your garden spaces. Let your own creativity be your guide! Students will be using hand-building techniques to create their one-of-a-kind objects. No previous clay experience necessary. Your garden objects will be created on the first and second evenings (6-8pm). They are then bisque fired. During the last class (6-7:30pm) you will “paint” and glaze your objects to make them colorful and weather-resistant. Pieces will then be glaze fired and may be picked up at the Arts Center 10 days after the final class.Spring/Summer 2026 -
WaitlistGals Night Out at the OACArtful LivingCalling all friends who would like a fun, free-spirited, and creative night out! During this evening, you will be shown the variety of ways that clay can be manipulated into useful, decorative, and “gifty” creations. You may try throwing pots on the wheel, hand-building, and/or utilizing clay slabs to make your unique creation come to life. Delve into your imagination, experiment, and have fun! No experience necessary! The pieces that you have created will be bisque fired, glazed with the color of your choosing, and fired a second time. Your pieces are then microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe. You may pick up your treasures at the Arts Center 3 weeks after class.Spring/Summer 2026 -
Pottery on the Wheel for Teens and AdultsArtful LivingHow do you throw clay on the wheel? Beginners will learn how to use the wheel to create three dimensional forms and vessels. Demonstrations will cover the basics of wedging, centering, pulling, trimming, and forming functional vessels. If you are accustomed to clay, come and fine-tune your skills, learn a new technique, and challenge yourself with larger, more complex forms. Dress for a mess and wear tennis shoes. Bring your ideas, excitement, and inspiration to each class. One 25 lbs bag of clay is included. Any additional clay can be purchased from the Owatonna Arts Center.
